The Foundation Welcomes Two New Members

The Bruening Foundation looks forward to working with its newest Distribution Committee members, William R. Plato and Thomas E. Wagner.

Bill Plato has held many leadership positions, including Cuyahoga County Administrator, Executive Vice President of United Way Services and Vice President for Economic Development at the Greater Cleveland Growth Association. As a management consultant, he was involved with many strategic planning projects in healthcare and economic development. Mr. Plato has served on many non-profit boards, including the Center for Families and Children, the Cleveland Foodbank, and the Sisters of Charity Health System.

Tom Wagner has experience with a broad spectrum of public and private companies, non-profit institutions and government entities. He served in many leadership roles during his 32 years with Calfee, Halter & Griswold, including Co-Chair and Managing Partner. He was formerly the Law Director for the City of Cleveland. Mr. Wagner has served on many non-profit boards, including Playhouse Square Foundation, Medical Mutual Charitable Foundation, University School, Greater Cleveland Boy Scouts of America, Great Lakes Science & Technology Museum, and Center for the Great Lakes.

Douglas Bannerman and Robert Kane Resign From Committee

The Bruening Foundation thanks Douglas Bannerman for his 10 years of service on the Committee and 2 years as Chair. The Foundation also thanks Bob Kane for his 5 years of service as a Committee member. These two upstanding committee members will be missed.

Marilyn Cunin, Starlight Guardian Humanitarian Award Winner

On November 16, 2010, Committee Member, Marilyn Cunin was one of three recipients of the 2010 Sixth Annual Our Lady of the Wayside’s Starlight Guardian Humanitarian Award. Marilyn, as well as Mike & Sharon Hargrove, received the award at a benefit that raised more than $170,000 to support programs and services at Our Lady of the Wayside. Mrs. Cunin was instrumental in forming and subsequently finding the funds to create and expand Our Lady of the Wayside more than 40 years ago. She remains dedicated to the cause today.

The mission of the Eva L. and Joseph M. Bruening Foundation is to reduce the impact of poverty and enhance the quality of life of those most in need in Cuyahoga County. The Foundation invests in effective programs that serve the economically disadvantaged by meeting their educational, employment, and basic human needs.
